Why should Humanity Glorify God

Watson identifies five reasons why Humanity must bring glory to God. These are expounded below;

1.      Because he gives us our being; Psalm 100:3, “it is he that made us”. We think of it as a great kindness in a man to spare our life, but what kindness id it in God to give us our lives! We draw our breadth from Him; and as life, so all the comforts of life are from him. He gives us health, which is the sauce to sweeten our life; and food, which is the oil that nourishes the lamp of life. If all we receive is from His bounty, is it not reasonable that we glorify him? Should we not live for Him, seeing that we live by him? Rom. 11:36 says, “For of Him, and through Him, are all things.”

2.      Because god has made all things for His own glory; Prov. 16:4, “The lord hath made all things for himself” “that is for his glory.” As a king has excise out of commodities, so God will have glory out of the wicked. If they will not give him glory, he will get glory upon them. Exo. 14:17. “I will get me honour upon Pharaoh.” But especially has he made the Godly for his glory; they are the lively organs of his praise.

3.      Because the glory of God has intrinsic value and excellence; it transcends the thoughts of men, and the tongues of angels. His glory is His treasure; all his riches lie here; as Micah said, Judges 18:24 says, “What have I more?” So what has God more? God’s glory is worth more than heaven and worth more than the salvation of all of men’s souls. Better men and angels annihilated, than God should lose one jewel of his crown, one beam of his glory.

4.      Creatures below us, and above us, bring glory to God and do we think to sit rent free? Shall everything glorify God but man? It would be a pity then that man was ever made.

5.      We must bring glory to God, because all our hopes hang upon him; Psalm 39:7 says. “My hope is in thee.” And Psalm 62:5, says “My expectation is from him;” Now if with God hangs all our being, can we do less than to bring Him glory? We cannot Humanity must therefore bring honour whilst we journey here on earth. For those who bring Him honour now will continue in the life after bringing honour unto Him. For then, we shall see Him as he is. That day we shall behold Him face to face and His divine glory shall exude form us greatly. He desires your glory. He desires that you praise and honour him whilst you are living. Is this all he desires from you? Yes, that is all nothing more, nothing less. Then give him glory.

A life without glory to God is a dishonor to Him. Most of us have often dishonored God. Often at our place of work, we might with the dirt of the world and soil our hands with blood because we exhort from poor in the name of helping them. It has gotten to an extent in this nation that almost every institution has been corrupted with money. This is also true of some churches. It is an open secret that some ministers of the gospel give preferential treatment to those who are well to do in their assemblies. God is being dishonored by this. We feel no shame when we pay tithes and offerings on extorted money. God is being dishonored. I was recently talking with a man who says he does not go to church. He is one of the generous men I have ever seen. His patience also cannot be overemphasized. He said. ‘I have lost confidence in ministers of God although I respect them greatly. Almost every Christian I work with tries to cheat me. I don’t understand why they go to church on every Sunday but still cheat others.’ These are just some of the few things he said with passion. I am in no way justifying his decision to stay out of church but we can find some truth in what he said. Just ask yourself, am I bringing dishonor to God or not? In what ways have I been dishonoring God? How can I now bring glory to Him? A life lived in dishonor to god is not fit for the kingdom. Such a journey is not on the path that is broad.

O that our speeches will bring glory to god and that our tongues shall be seasoned with salt; that the words of our mouth will bring great encouragement unto many and will not sow seeds of despair.

O husbands love your wives. For in doing you bring honour to god. If you have taken her to wife among all the women in thus world, then you should love her with all your heart. Just love her. Try to bring smiles on her face. Do not provoke her. You are like Christ and she is the church. Without Christ the church is weak and vulnerable. The hope of the church is Christ alone. The woman will always be hopeful if the man is around. His strong heart gives her energy that all is well. Men, do not refrain from caring for your bride for Christ did not do so. Bring honour to God by honoring your wife and cherishing her. No infidelity. Tell the other women ‘I think I love my wife. Yes, you might be more beautiful than her but I love her. Yes, you might have a better job but I still love my wife.’

To the women who represent the church, yours is to love him in return. Be submissive and dutiful. Do not insult for that will be dishonoring Christ. Just love. Be sincere in loving and remember great mothers in the faith. You can be faithful to your man. Love your husband.

Dearly beloved, life is not about self but rather others. It is a tragedy in our days how most people are living for only self. Life is meaningless when it is lived for only oneself. A meaningful life lives or others. It imparts into others a sense to hope and live.

The following will be useful to us in this advance. Although I do not fully support the principles of some these people, their minds on serving others is very useful. Let us conclude this chapter with them.

“You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.”

-John Bunyan

“No one has ever become poor by giving” – Anne Frank, diary of Anne Frank

“No one is useless in this world who enlightens the burden of another” – Charles Dickens

“When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully everyone is blessed.” – Maya Angelou

“We only have what we give” – Isabell Allende

“Love is not patronizing charity isn’t about pity, it is about love. Charity and love are the same. With charity you give love, so don’t just give money but reach out your hand instead.” – Mother Teresa

“Doing nothing for others is the undoing of ourselves.” – Horace Mann

“Give but until it hurts” – Mother Teresa

“Sometimes those who give the most are the ones with the least to spare.” – Mike Mclntyre, the kindness of Strangers

“Never underestimate the difference YOU can make in their lives of others. Step forward, reach out and help. This week reach to someone that might need a lift.” – Pablo

Within this life journey all that we need have been spelt out in the word of God- the Bible- for us. It is our manual on this journey. Let us see it as God’s living word for the power which it had in times past has not ceased. They contain the very words of God. In 1 Corinthians 13, Apostle Paul teaches on love. The first three verses read, “if I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have no love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have no love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.”

From the aforementioned verses, it can clearly be noticed that LOVE must move all of humanity. One who thinks he or she is speaking in supernatural language, for instance in tongues but does not show love is juts disturbing the world around. Such people can speak also in the tongues of men. Probably they have gone to best schools in the world and have lots of degrees to their credit. They speak fluently. They are nothing if they lack love.

Let the prophets of God who can see into the supernatural and can interpret all mysteries and all knowledge (mind you, Daniel and John could not even understand most of the things revealed to them) remember that they are nothing without love. If one operates in the gift of faith and can cause many supernatural things to happen through the exercise of the gift of faith but lacks love, he has a gigantic problem to wrestle with. You might be charitable and decide to give out all you have to the poor but you too are nothing without love.

Of a truth love is what all should seek after. Our hearts should burn to love others as Christ loved us and gave himself for us. It is in this that true worship is exhibited. We do not choose to love but we must learn to love. A testimony of Prophet Bob Jones about love when he had a near death experience on 8th August, 1975 shows this. This is just a piece of it;

“I watched the Lord speak to people that were coming there. And he asked them only one question: “Did you learn to love?” He’s not going to ask what you did. If you learn to love you are going to do that which is right. Did you learn to love? He would ask them that question and they would say, Yes Lord and He would kiss them right on the lips and embrace them and the double doors of His heart would be open and they would go right on in.

Some of them had a lot of angels with them and they would go in. The angels went in because they would go on in. the angels went in because that had testimonies and they had helped people do things on the earth. They have no testimony until they help you do something. You are the ones that will judge angels by their rewards for what they helped you do. They are more willing to submit and let them help you do it.”

Now what if we were also asked the same question whether we learnt to love? What will be our answer? Until we know that in our earthly journey, we need to love God and others, we have not begun living. I remember in my third year in University (about 2005) I woke up from bed with a holy fervor to do the whole will of God, I decided to study the scriptures from Genesis to Revelation, noting each day the command of God I was to follow. I saw that this was a heavy duty. During that week, I was studying the scriptures when the truth of God’s word shone into my eyes – “And he said to him, you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the Prophets, (Matt. 22:37 – 40).

This settled my quest for I realized that for one to go please God, it is just LOVE; love that which flows from the innermost heart; love which will not be selfish or greedy. Take time and closely look at 1 Corinthians 13 and you will realize that it is applicable in all institutions of life.

Where is the element of Love in the Body of Christ today? The church was founded on love and by, love. The love of God kept the early church together. For their Lord told them before His demise, “a new commandment I give you, that you love another: just as I loved you, you also are to love one another. By this the people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” – John 13:34 – 35. The church was to be built on love. They can triumph only in love. Love is therefore the foremost mark of the believer. The one who love is like a master himself for he so loved that he gave His blood for humanity.

Through this journey of life, love will cause the church to conquer and overcome all powers of evil. By it multitudes of sin will be covered. By it unbelievers will turn to Christ. Romans 5:5 says “and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our heart through the holy Spirit who has been given to us.” God is ever willing through the power of the Spirit to cause us to love and love.

Every human being was created in the image of God. This is what theologians refer to as the imago dei. God who created us in His image wants to continually make us like Himself until the day we are totally like Him in his appearing. This image of God in man was destroyed in Adam but restored in Christ who is the second Adam. When the image is restored by God, the human person begins to journey towards the throne. O what joys the soul will receive when in heaven the King bids come!

Dearly beloved, it holds true that you can miss your way though you were once on the right path. The message of the church today has entirely changed which has affected the members of the body. Now the one who has the latest car in the church is the person God has blessed and favored. It is good to have it, but that is not the only measure of God’s blessings. The greatest enemy affecting the church is materialism. When the church becomes materialistic we are doomed. That should not occupy our minds but rather God should. They will then bring glory to God as they are employed in service to God.

I still cannot forget that day when lady told me she can never forgive her friend for what she had done to her. ‘I prefer rather to go to hell than to forgive her.’ She said. Unforgiveness has crippled the body of Christ for so long. Learn to forget because no matter what, offence is bound to come. Learn to master forgiveness.

Heaven is your home and not hell. Heaven is the place Christ said he is going to prepare for the Church. We are the church destined for the throne. My prayer is that the one holding this book will serve god with all the heart, soul and strength. And that we shall be reminded of the temporal place called earth. This is not a permanent place. Our permancy is in heaven.

If you are not sure of your salvation, call Jesus

Rigth now to come and take residence in your

Heart. Journey with Him in this life’s journey

And you will be glad you did.

This is the greatest call you can ever respond

To in this Life. Amen.
